T H E S T O R Y

On September 30, 2008, Omar Jibril was on his way to De Anza College on his motorcycle just like any other morning. It was the last day of Ramadan and he had already made plans on how he would break his fast and celebrate Eid the next day, but not before calling his family in the UAE and wishing them a Eid Mubarak. Unfortunately he never got a chance to do any of those things.

Omar was an international student from the UAE and was in the country all alone with no family. He worked a full-time job and went to school full-time and struggled to make ends meet at times but never complained. He made it his mission to befriend anyone and everyone and did so with his infectious and joyous personality. He was the nicest and most genuine person any of us had ever met and no one ever had anything bad to say about him. As one of Omar's best friends Jad Adaimi said

“Omar was more than a good friend, he was a brother. His love, understanding and honesty will always be a lesson that lives within me, and all the memories he left with all of his close friends will never be forgotten.”

PURPOSE: On February 15, 2019 our patriarch Amin Ali Seif Gheith Al-Kisswani passed away at the age of 85 in his homeland, Palestine. Hajj Amin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend to many.

T H E S T O R Y

Amin Seif was an esteemed and compassionate teacher. He was a teacher for 40 years with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees and we would love to continue his legacy working with Palestinian refugees. Therefore, we have decided to raise funds to build a water well for the United Nation schools in Gaza through the organization Zam Zam Water (please continue reading to learn more about the organization’s vital role in bringing sustainability to villages facing difficulties across the globe).

Amin was revered by many for his pious and humble attitude. His humility, tender smile, and laughter would only fill your heart with so much joy. He was an incredible father to 12 and grandfather to 42. His life was filled with purpose and meaning, and we hope to always carry and continue his legacy.

“When a person dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him.”

— The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

Inna lillahi wa Inna ilayhi rajioon. May Allah (SWT) illuminate his grave, grant him the company of the messengers and enter him into Jannat Firdaus. Ameen.

Not only will he receive Sadaqa Jariyah through his children, students and grandchildren but also through this well, insha'Allah. Help us honor Amin Ali Seif's legacy by building a water well as an ongoing charity in his name

SADAQA JARIYAH: CONTINUOUS CHARITY ON BEHALF OF MY FATHER.

Assalamu alaykum, and peace to all!

My name is Anida M. and I will be 25 years old on December 14th, God willing! For many years, my friends and family would plan various outings and dinners for my birthday along with buying many, many, many presents! Alhamdullilah, I have been blessed with everything I need and more. So…this year, I have decided, instead of planning festivities and spending money on dinners that I end up taking home and eating for lunch the next day, I want to give something that many individuals across the world do not have easy access to: water.

Many of you may already know my late father, Haji Gulgai Masuod passed away May 9, 2015. He always encouraged me to give back to those in need as well as caring for the under-served, underprivileged individuals and constantly praying for their well-being. My father’s memory and inspiration sparked this idea to provide access to individuals in a rural village in Afghanistan –his homeland.

WHY PROJECTS LIKE ZAM ZAM WATER MATTERED TO MY FATHER.

It was narrated by Ibn Majah, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon Him said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.”

Help us provide access to clean water to give people the opportunity to live a healthy and productive life.

Rising poverty and unemployment in urban centers prevent returning Afghan refugees from reintegrating into society. Scarce resources and limited basic infrastructure are linked to poor employment opportunities, which also affect the sustainable reintegration of Afghan returnees.

WHERE WILL YOUR MONEY GO?

I have teamed up with LaunchGood and Zam Zam Water to raise money for Phase II of the Afghan Community Project.

Phase II Includes:

- Provide the villagers with the necessary resources and install a community-wide water irrigation piping system.

-This piping system will allow full access of potable water for the villagers by bringing the water to their homes and areas of living.

- The piping system will decrease the amount of time they have to wait to access the water from a central point.

- It will decrease the amount of water-borne diseases that are caused due to lack of sanitation, and it will allow to regulate the water usage so the amount is used properly.

PURPOSE: To honor the life and legacy of Yasar David Barakzai by building water projects.

T H E S T O R Y

On the evening of March 19th, our dearest YASAR DAVID BARAKZAI left class and got on his bike as he decided to make his way back home to continue studying for his midterms before heading to visit his older sisters in San Francisco for Spring Break. Just as he was making his way out of school, a car quickly struck his last breath out of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene with strangers gathered around him placing blankets on him and providing prayers. Yasar did not make it back home that night in this dunya, but he was graciously invited to his permanent home with Allah SWT in paradise. Yasar went home.

Yasar's life was a testament to his strength and his contentment with the blessings and trials that he was dealt with. Labeling him as a kind soul is an understatement. Carrying himself as an amazing storyteller, hungry for real and raw human connections, he left his mark on every single person he came across. Yasar was someone who cared about people and was always seeking self-improvement. He was a beautiful and sweet soul--always concerned for the well-being of others and their happiness, and always willing to help.

Wise beyond his age with always something hilarious to say is the Yasar we all got to see. Beyond his goofiness and charismatic smile though, was a poetic soul majority of us weren't privileged enough to see. The night of his tragic accident, he had a backpack strapped to his back that carried his perfectly organized schedule, a notebook filled with beautifully written notes, a pen that barely survived the impact, and a journal from his English class. The first page of his journal carried an assignment where he had five minutes to freely write about intolerance and tolerance. This is what he wrote: (Image 1).

I show this to you because no matter how many adjectives we use to describe Yasar, there are not enough words in the dictionary beside his own that will beautifully reveal the man he was. His writing confesses an ounce of his kind heart. This is the side of Yasar many of us didn't get to see. With aspiration in wanting to finish school and becoming the man his parents could depend on, to wanting to learn how to fly planes and travel to places unknown, this is the side we weren't privileged to see.

If there's one thing his mother did know however, it was that Yasar was good. So good that he carried the intention to someday build water wells for places that need it most...
